Good service. Drunken noodles were solid. Alot of dishes on the menu. Authentic dessert oprions too.

On a blustery winter day after a trip to the dentist, I was craving some spicy foods both to warm myself up and reawaken my taste buds. Taking advantage of lunch time timing to avoid the crowds at Bellaire Food Street, Mom and I hit up Lao'd District for some good eats - here's what we tried: Khao Poon - This beautiful curry noodle soup revived me from the first sip - you can imagine it as somewhere on a spectrum between laksa and khao soi, with a focus on the fresh herbs and cabbage crowning the bowl to add texture and zest to the rich, warm soup base. The portion itself was large enough to feed both of us, but YMMV. Nam Khao - This delightfully crispy and savory dish is well balanced here, encompassing nutty morsels of browned rice, salty specks of sausage, and green herbs. Do note that temperature-wise it is more akin to a salad than a fried rice - the the lettuce leaves to wrap up spoonfuls of the rice, then chow down! Papaya salad - A side portion of papaya salad accompanies all lunch specials, balancing heavier meat dishes with much needed fiber and acidity. I loved the sweet, tangy dressing and the sharp crunch of green papaya, though a customization choice to up the spiciness would be nice. Thai Cafe - Similar to cà phê sữa dá, this delectably sweet and highly caffeinated beverage is a smooth yet bold salve to any spice you might encounter during your meal. It also comes with your lunch special! Ordering is quite efficient through the QR code on each table, but don't sleep on the service staff here - we were frequently attended to with drinks, napkins, and to-go containers as we needed. In a city with a glut of great Southeast Asian restaurants, I'm proud of Lao'd for staying true and standing out - I'm already looking forward to my next visit so I can try the khao piak sen, "curria" tacos, and sticky basil fried rice!

I've been to lao'd district a couple times and each time the service has been welcoming. They always ask if you've been here before, I think mainly to see if they need to explain their ordering process which is done through the QR code on their table. The food is pretty good. The Crack belly is consistently a hit. The crispy rice is popular but I think it needs a bit more flavor. The drunken noodles are standard. Ended up trying Khao Poon, the Lao curry soup) and we scarfed it down. It was perfect for a rainy day and had nice heat. We did use the leftover lime from the crack belly dish to put in the curry, and it elevated the flavors even more. Would recommend! Always cool to see the art on their wall. I feel like I see something new each time I'm here.

Stay tuned - I gotta eat. Sooooo good! I'll need to come back and finish this review later! Ok I finished it up! Burp! Yep! This place is yummy good! Burp! We ordered a hodge podge of stuff! I got the Tiger Steak and it was the bomb! Come here. Eat! You will like it! In health and happiness! Cheers!

Another great find - thanks, Yelp family! Lao'd is located in that strip center not anchored by a grocery store. It faces Bellaire directly and has its own parking facilities. Back when this center first opened, parking was impossible to find and it was terrible to maneuver around - we avoided it like the plague. 5+ years later the hype has died down so parking was a lot less stressful. The inside is bright and clean and you order everything off your phone via qr code. It opens a tab and charges you at the end when you close the tab. Pro tip: order as you want the plates to come. We ordered our dessert with our main dishes and dessert came first... so that's what we ate first After dessert, we started with the Mekong calamari and this was so good (5/5). Perfect fry, not too thick and the calamari was still soft! The seasoning was *chef's kiss* - the perfect blend of heat and spice. It definitely has some heat and was right at the limit of what I could tolerate. Then we had the tiger's cry (5+/5) and this was cooked perfectly medium with amazing flavor. Tender, juicy, just enough fat - amazing! Because we liked the Mekong calamari so much we also ordered the mekong wings (3/5) but this was just ok to me. I actually thought it was a bit dry. We had the Thai tea flan and this was also really good (4/5). Service also great! Even though the sign on the QR code says to grab your own utensils, the wait staff brought plates, utensils, etc. before we could even get up. Really appreciated that! Plenty of seating inside with tvs all around to watch while you eat! Can't wait to return!

We visited Lao'd District for a weekend lunch and left feeling, "OMG HOW HAVE WE NOT COME HERE ANY SOONER!!" The food was absolutely delicious. Everything had a wonderful balance of flavors and everything was perfectly cooked. We enjoyed the cream cheese egg-rolls, pork-belly, steak, and fried chicken skins. The service was great and ambiance was very urban and relaxed. We will be back!

I've been really busy recently to go out and eat in person, so I've been ordering a lot of foods to-go or through delivery. I've ordered from Lao'd District so many times so far, and all the foods have turned out so good every time. I really can't wait to eat here in person when I have the chance. So far, my absolute favorites are the Tiger Cry Steak and the Lao'd Sausages. I really think they have the best Tiger Cry Steak out of all the ones I've had so far everywhere else, and the Lao'd Sausages, which come with sticky rice, are perfect. I also really love the Crack Belly and the Mekong Calamari, and both of those always super flavorful. I've also tried the Nam Khao (Crispy Rice), and it was pretty good as well, especially the cured pork that comes with it. I also really love their Thai Tea, which is pretty concentrated and does not taste watered down. I was not a big fan of the Thai Roti Canai; it was just not as fluffy and light as I'd expected it to be, and I've had better elsewhere. I've also had the Khao Piak Sen (Lao Chicken Noodle Soup), which was not bad, but the chicken was dry.

I've been sleeping on this place y'all... I always drive past here and never thought to try it until now. Very authentic Southeast Asian experience here! The roti canai was what you'd expect, the roti was buttery and flaky while the curry dip was full of flavor. I tried the crispy rice salad (nam khao) for the first time and I quite liked it. It was very limey and fresh. I think if it was crispier it'd be perfect! The crying tiger steak was solid. The steak had a nice sear and was tender. I loved the sour dipping sauce. The papaya salad with raw crab was my favorite. There was a generous amount of crab and sauce. The crab was so tender and sweet while the papaya was spicy and limey! Every dish I had was amazing and I love seeing Lao food being showcased in this area of town!

Met a friend for lunch and we finally tried Lao'd on a Friday afternoon. It wasn't too crowded and we took a table by the window. I liked the oversized chairs. Very comfy! The server greeted us immediately and advised to use the QR code on the table which connected you to the Toasttab ordering system. All transactions from ordering to paying are done on the site. Even though the server only brought us water and our food, he still came over to check on us. I ordered the pad Thai and it was some of the best I've had in Houston. The chicken breast wasn't dry, sliced thinly, and the tofu added texture. I can't eat bean sprouts so I was able to add a note to my order. I normally have leftovers but I finished my entire plate! They have lots of other items and drinks that I want to try next time. Can't wait!
